History
Oneida Molded Plastics was founded in Oneida, New York in 1964. The company's initial focus was the injection molding of television connector components for customers such as General Electric and General Instrument. In 1968, OMP moved to its current location in Oneida, which allowed the company to begin assembly and painting of its molded products for a broader array of consumer electronics customers. With this grounding, OMP began to specialize in the injection molding and finishing of enclosures for a wide variety of business equipment, telecommunications, and medical products. Success was driven by OMP's ability to produce high grade finishes that met the aesthetic requirements of its growing customer base.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, OMP's solid customer platform allowed for organic growth. Management added to this growth through acquisitions that expanded the company's capabilities and geography. In 1987, OMP acquired Arrowhead Industries, which added the Phoenix molding facility and the Three Rivers Tool tooling facility, both located in Phoenix, New York. In 1997, the Company expanded its customer base with the acquisition of Quality Molded Plastics of Siler City, North Carolina.
These acquisitions helped OMP diversify its customer base as the Company built a reputation in firearms components, medical product components, and specialty automotive products. OMP successfully entered these markets by providing highly aesthetic parts and developing expertise in processes such as machining and assembly that allowed the company to provide complete sub-assemblies to its customers. From part painting and simple assembly offered in the 1960s, OMP has continually built its skill base, adding insert molding and EMI/RFI shielding in the 1970s, complex/multi-station assembly in 1974, and Class 2 finishes and clear coating in the 1980s. During the 1990s, a host of sophisticated molding technologies were added, including white room molding, over-molding, clear polycarbonate molding, long-glass fiber molding and clear acrylic molding. Class 1 finishes were added in 2003. The Phoenix facility received its ISO 9001 certification in 2001, and in 2003 the Oneida and Siler City facilities' ISO certifications were upgraded to ISO 9001-2000.
In 2006, an investor group led by Laud Collier & Company acquired the assets of the ORC Plastics Division of Reunion Industries, Inc. and created Oneida Molded Plastics LLC. Investors in Oneida include Argosy Investment Partners, Family Capital Growth Partners and management.
The investor group brought in R. Barry Uber, a former Group Executive with Ingersoll Rand Corporation, to serve as Executive Chairman of OMP. The new investor and bank group provide OMP with liquidity, a new, strong balance sheet and access to capital, all of which allow the company to focus on growth, operating improvements and solidifying relationships with customers and suppliers.
